Basement Floor Coatings for Colorado Homes
Turn a cold, dusty basement slab into a clean, sealed floor, starting with a moisture check and solid surface prep.

Basement Floor Coatings from SBV
A basement floor coating turns bare concrete into a clean, bright surface that is easy to live on, whether the space is a gym, a playroom, storage or a laundry area. In Arvada, SBV Concrete Coatings installed a flake basement floor after solid prep and scraping to get the slab ready. In Parker, a basement was part of a 1,175 sq ft transformation that also covered the garage and patio.
Basements in Colorado come with their own challenges. Moisture and vapor can come up through the slab, and that is one of the most common reasons coatings peel. That is why every basement job starts with a moisture check. If we find a concern, we can talk about a moisture barrier, which we cover on our concrete repair and moisture mitigation page.
Most homeowners choose a flake floor for a practical, forgiving finish or a metallic floor for a finished living space. Take a look at our gallery for ideas.

Why it works
Why choose basement floor coatings
Brighter, Cleaner Space
A coated floor reflects more light than gray concrete and stops the constant dust that comes off an unsealed slab. Your basement feels like a usable part of the house, whether it is a gym, playroom, workshop or storage area.
Moisture Checked Up Front
Moisture coming through the slab is a leading cause of peeling basement coatings. We check before we quote. If there is a concern, we will recommend a moisture barrier option in writing, so you are not surprised by problems later.
Easy Cleanup for Real Life
Spills from laundry, kids, pets or a home gym stay on the sealed surface where you can wipe them up. There are no grout lines or carpet fibers to trap dirt, which is a big help in a busy basement.
Practical or Showpiece
Choose a textured flake floor that hides wear and gives good footing, or a glossy metallic floor that makes a finished basement feel high end. Either way, the coating is built on the same careful prep and grinding.
The install
How SBV installs it
Moisture Check and Inspection
We check the slab for moisture and look for old paint, adhesive, sealer or damage that needs to come off before coating.
Scraping, Grinding and Repair
We scrape off residue, diamond-grind the floor and fill cracks and pits. On the Arvada job, this thorough prep was key.
Primer or Moisture Barrier
If needed, a moisture-mitigating primer goes down first. Otherwise, a base coat is applied directly to the ground slab.
Flake or Metallic Layer
We broadcast flake to full coverage or create a metallic design, depending on the look you chose.
Clear Topcoat
A clear topcoat seals the floor and sets the final texture and shine. Cure time depends on temperature and the system chosen, and we will walk you through when you can walk on it and when you can park on it.
A good fit for
- Unfinished basements
- Home gyms and playrooms
- Laundry and utility areas
- Basement storage and workshops
- Finished basements wanting a custom look

My basement feels damp. Can it still be coated?
Often, yes, but it depends on what is going on. We check the slab for moisture before quoting. Light moisture can often be handled with a moisture-mitigating primer or barrier under the coating. Active water from leaks or drainage problems should be fixed first. We will give you an honest read on your basement at the estimate.
Will a coating help with radon?
A floor coating is not a radon mitigation system, and we do not sell it as one. Radon is common in Colorado, and testing and mitigation should be handled by a radon specialist. If you have a mitigation system, we coat around it carefully and keep any sealed openings and the system's pipe intact.
What happens to old paint or glue on my basement floor?
Old paint, carpet glue and sealers need to come off for a new coating to bond. We scrape and diamond-grind the floor to remove them and open up the concrete. That kind of solid prep is what we did on a basement flake floor in Arvada before the coating went down.
Is a coated basement floor cold underfoot?
A coating seals and finishes the concrete, but it does not add insulation, so the floor will feel about as cool as the slab. Many homeowners add area rugs in living spaces. In gyms, laundry rooms and storage areas, the easy cleanup is usually worth more than warmth underfoot.
