Floor coatings in Golden
Golden is close to home for SBV Concrete Coatings, and we've installed a fresh flake floor here that shows how much a coated slab changes a space. The process starts with grinding to open up the concrete, then crack repair, a base coat, a full broadcast of flake and a protective topcoat that ties it all together.
Golden homes sit right at the edge of the foothills, and garages here tend to see a mix of commuting, outdoor gear and hobby work. A flake epoxy floor handles that kind of mixed use well. If your garage is mostly a workspace, ask about our grind and seal options too, which keep a more natural concrete look.

Local know-how
What to know in Golden
Downtown, Foothill Neighborhoods and Applewood
Golden ranges from older homes near downtown and Clear Creek to subdivisions climbing toward the foothills and areas bordering Applewood to the east. Older homes may have smaller or detached garages with worn concrete, while newer foothills homes often have larger attached garages. There are also plenty of rentals near the Colorado School of Mines campus. Each type of property has a different slab history, so prep needs vary, and that's something we review in person or through photos before quoting.
Canyon Winds and Foothills Weather
Golden sits where Clear Creek Canyon opens onto the plains, and it gets gusty winds, sudden snowstorms and big temperature swings. Vehicles coming down from the mountains on US-6 or I-70 bring in snow, slush and road treatments that melt on the garage floor. Bare concrete absorbs that brine and can flake over time. Strong sun also hits garages that face south or west. A flake system with a UV-stable topcoat helps protect against both problems.
Gear Garages, Rentals and Hobby Shops
Golden is an outdoor town, and garages here often store climbing gear, mountain bikes, kayaks and skis. A coated floor makes it easy to clean up mud and water after a day on the trail or river. Landlords with rentals near campus may want a durable floor that's simple to clean between tenants. Hobbyists running small woodshops or bike repair stations in the garage also appreciate a surface that doesn't absorb oil or stain easily.

How is a flake floor different from just painting my garage?
Garage floor paint sits on top of the concrete and often peels under hot tires and winter slush. A flake system starts with grinding so the coating bonds into the slab, then builds layers of base coat, flake and topcoat. It's a much thicker, more durable floor. We can explain the details during your free estimate.
Can you coat a garage in an older home near downtown Golden?
Yes. Older garages often need more repair before coating, including crack filling and leveling rough areas. We'll look at the slab and let you know what prep is involved. Older concrete may also have old paint or sealer that needs to be ground off first.
I rent out a property near campus. Is a coated floor worth it?
Many landlords like coated floors because they're easier to clean between tenants and look well kept. We can't promise a specific return, but a finished floor generally holds up better than bare or painted concrete. Mention your turnover dates when you request a quote.
